I wanta be sedatated-Ramons

It is Wednesday morning at 1:56am, my roomie is sound asleep next to me and I am coveting her ease of falling into slumber. You would think that I would be use to coming off and going on to one of the strongest pain killers known to man, but again I find myself defeated by the very drug that relieved me of my pain, now mercilessly traps me into the darkest of caves. It leaves me helpless and I wait for some strength to come through to save me from these chains of addiction, but little to nothing saves me from this roller coaster of pain.

I am exhausted, anxious, irritable and allowing myself to dwell in self pity. I watch people suffer with addiction and see the choice that they so graciously have, whether to do or not to do, but me I have no choice, I am given this drug by a medical professional to take as needed. Then I am expected to go back to normal like nothing had ever happened. Like I never felt the rush up my neck and in brain all the way down to my toes.

They expect me to forget how amazing it feels to have every worry erased and this over whelming peace to take over. They expect me to not to ever want that feeling again?

Dilaudid, a gift and a curse? Ask me and each day my answer will change.

Hydromorphone (Dilauded) was first synthesized and researched in Germany in 1924 and introduced to the mass market by Knoll in 1926 under the brand name Dilaudid indicating its derivation and degree of similarity to morphine .

Hydromorphone is used to relieve moderate to severe pain and severe, painful dry coughing. Hydromorphone is becoming more popular in the treatment of chronic pain in many countries. Hydromorphone displays superior solubility and speed of onset, a less troublesome side effect profile, and lower dependence liability as compared to morphine and diamorphine (heroin). It is thought to be 8-10 times stronger than morphine, but with a lower risk of dependency. Hydromorphone is therefore preferred over morphine in many areas ranging from the emergency department to the operating suite to ongoing treatment of chronic pain syndromes. However, other studies have suggested hydromorphone is less than twice as potent as hydrocodone or oxycodone and therefore just over twice as strong as morphine via oral administration.[3]

Hydromorphone lacks the toxic metabolites (e.g. norpethidine) of many opioids related to pethidine and some of the methadone and tends to cause less nausea than morphine. It is a common alternative for those who tend to have hallucinations from fentanyl administered in the form of skin plasters and other dosage forms.

In addition to the above, hydromorphone usually proves to be the first alternative of choice to morphine and fentanyl in severe chronic pain.
